Iran urged citizens Tuesday to reduce gasoline consumption as a U.S. naval blockade disrupts fuel imports and leaves Tehran struggling to secure enough supplies to meet domestic demand.
"Of course, part of the responsibility for this high consumption does not lie with our people; it lies with our industry," parliament speaker and top negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said in a televised address. "But in any case, what is clear is that we need to save gasoline in our consumption."
President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tuesday that Iran would immediately reciprocate if the United States honors its commitments under an interim deal signed in June. Tehran has repeatedly said it will allow free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil supplies, only if Washington implements the terms of the agreement.
