US condemns terrorist attack in Istanbul

The United States on Sunday said the suicide bombing attack in central Istanbul was a 'shocking crime' and offered assistance in bringing the perpetrators to 'swift justice.'

Washington - US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton was referring to the attack earlier in the day in front of a police station on Taksim Square that injured 32 people, 17 of them passers-by. Police defused a second bomb found after the attack. In a statement, she noted that the attack had targeted 'innocent civilians in one of the city's busiest squares.' 'The United States will continue to work with Turkey to combat violent extremism and to safeguard the security of peace-loving people everywhere,' Clinton said. (DPA)
