At least twenty-three PKK and People's Protection Units (YPG) terrorists who attacked a gendarmerie command station in Şanlıurfa's Ceylanpınar district near the Syrian border have been "neutralized," the Turkish military said Tuesday.

The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) uses the term "neutralized" in reference to terrorists captured dead or alive, or those who surrendered during the operations. However, the term is usually used for the terrorists who were killed in the operations.

Additionally, a YPG/PKK terrorist who escaped from the shelters in Syria surrendered to Turkish authorities in southeastern Mardin's Nusaybin district, the statement said.

On Jan. 20, Turkey launched Operation Olive Branch to clear YPG/PKK and Daesh terrorists from Afrin, northwestern Syria.

PYD/YPG is the Syrian offshoot of the PKK terrorist organization that has waged a more than 30-year war against Turkey.

More than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.
