Two soldiers were killed Sunday as a result of a roadside bomb laid by the PKK terrorist group in eastern Bitlis province, said security sources who spoke to the media.

A civilian was also wounded when the improvised explosive device was detonated along the Tatvan-Hizan highway, according to the sources who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media. Authorities have lunched a widescale operation in the region.

Meanwhile, four members of the PKK terrorist organization were killed in air operations on Saturday in eastern Turkey's Ağrı province, according to security forces.

The terrorists were killed in two separate air raids conducted using F-16 fighter jets and military helicopters in the western part of the Mount Tendürek, the sources said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Another five PKK terrorists have surrendered to security forces near a Turkey-Iraq border gate in the Silopi district of southeastern Turkish Şırnak province, according to a statement from the Şırnak governor's office released on Saturday.

The PKK that is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU, resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015 and has been since responsible for the deaths of approximately 1,200 security personnel and civilians, including women and children.
