Sixteen suspected foreign Daesh terrorists have been arrested in the Akçakale district in Turkey's southeastern province of Şanlıurfa, the Turkish military announced on Wednesday in a written statement.

The Turkish military and police launched a joint counter-terror operation on late Tuesday against Daesh terrorists in the district.

The numbers of the arrested terrorists were later released on the website of Turkish Armed Forces (TSK).

In recent years, Turkey has suffered numerous attacks by Daesh, including the Ankara train station bombing in Oct. 2015, which was the deadliest attack in Turkey and claimed more than 100 lives.

The Interior Ministry announced on Dec. 1 that 365 suspected Daesh terrorists were arrested last month as part of the counter-terror operation probe.

Turkey has so far deported more than 3,290 foreign terrorist fighters from 95 countries since 2011 and refused the entry of more than 38,269 individuals in its struggle against the terrorist group.
