Senior PKK figure killed in southeastern Turkey


A PKK terrorist who was killed by security forces on Saturday near Mount Tendürek, located between the southeastern provinces of Van and Ağrı, has been identified as Hakan Yeni. The terrorist was also went by the code name Mahir and was the PKK member responsible for the Tendürek region. The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) searched four days to find Yeni.

During the ongoing clashes between the TSK and PKK terrorists in the southeastern Mardin, Van and Hakkari provinces, 23 soldiers and more than 100 terrorists were killed, according to a statement published by the Hakkari governorate.

Meanwhile, according to records of terrorists' conversations obtained by security units on wireless communication, PKK members have been in great panic as a result of these operations, fleeing their camps in Northern Iraq. It was also revealed that many members of the terrorist organization were seriously wounded during operations and the number of casualties is likely to increase due to an insufficient numbers of doctors at the camps.

Founded in 1978, the PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and EU, has been fighting the Turkish state for an independent Kurdistan since the 1980s.
