Leaked emails show FETÖ lobbied for former presidential nominee
Recently leaked emails from the Democratic Party presidential nominee Hillary Clinton further reveal her connections with Fethullah Gülen, as a member of the Gülenist Terror Organization (FETÖ) tried to set up a meeting between then-chairman of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu and U.S. President Barack Obama during Obama's visit to Turkey in 2009, urging Hillary Clinton to act as an intermediary.
In an email sent on April 1, 2009, Gökhan Özkök, a founding board member of the Gülen-affiliated U.S.-based Turkish Cultural Center, urged then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's long-time aide Huma Abedin to persuade Clinton to arrange a meeting between İhsanoğlu and President Obama during his visit to Turkey the same year. The email reads: "Dear Huma, please tell Madam Secretary that it would be great if President Obama can include a 15 minute meeting with Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), in this trip to Turkey." İhsanoğlu was later nominated as the joint presidential candidate of both the People's Republican Party (CHP) and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) during the 2014 presidential elections, as a rival to the Justice and Development Party's (AK Party) candidate Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The election ended in İhsanoğlu's defeat. This recent revelation has raised the question of whether İhsanoğlu's candidacy was a Gülen movement project.
