Curfews imposed on Mardin's some neighborhoods before operations

Curfews have been imposed in many villages and neighborhoods of the southeastern province of Mardin to carry out counterterror operations against the PKK.

According to a statement released by the Mardin governorate, curfews have now been imposed on some districts of the province. As part of the curfews, locals in some of the neighborhoods of the Mazıdağı and Derik districts will not be allowed on the streets.

The governorate said that the curfews were imposed in an effort to restore order in the province, secure people's lives and properties and neutralize PKK elements. It added that PKK depots and warehouses will be targeted in the operations.

Turkey's southeast has been the scene of significant military operations since December 2015, as police and the military seek to clear the PKK from urban areas.

The PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU, resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, nearly 500 security forces personnel, including troops, police officers, and village guards, have been killed as well as over 4,900 PKK terrorists in operations across Turkey and Northern Iraq.
