After successful operations in Silopi and Cizre, the two districts of Nusaybin in Mardin and Yüksekova in Hakkari will undergo operations soon, PKK terrorists have supply routes from Syria's PKK-linked PYD-controlled town of Kobani

Security operations will be shifted to include the Nusaybin district in southeastern Mardin and the Yüksekova district in Hakkari province, to cut supply routes for PKK terrorists using underground tunnels from Syria. According to a report published in the Türkiye daily on Tuesday, following the successful operations in the Silopi and Cizre districts in southeastern Şırnak, together with the almost-complete operation in the Sur district of Diyarbakır, security forces have prepared for a new wave of anti-PKK fight in two more districts. Nusaybin will be first, where around 1,000 ditches and barricades have been constructed by almost 350 terrorists, as indicated by an intelligence report offered to the government.Security operations will be shifted to include the Nusaybin district in southeastern Mardin and the Yüksekova district in Hakkari province, to cut supply routes for PKK terrorists using underground tunnels from Syria.According to a report published in the Türkiye daily yesterday, following the successful operations in the Silopi and Cizre districts in southeastern Şırnak, together with the almost-complete operation in the Sur district of Diyarbakır, security forces have prepared for a new wave of anti-PKK fight in two more districts. Nusaybin will be first, where around 1,000 ditches and barricades have been constructed by almost 350 terrorists, as indicated by an intelligence report offered to the government. The district also constitutes a threat for security forces, due to hidden underground tunnels allowing PKK and its Syrian affiliate Democratic Union Party (PYD) terrorists to cross the border from the town of Kobani in Syria. Security forces will especially target these tunnels, also used as supply routes. Three neighborhoods in Nusaybin will be included in the scope of operations. The PKK terrorist organization has forced out local people of Arab origin, decreasing the population from 70,000 to 40,000.After Nusaybin, the next target of security forces will be the Yüksekova district of Hakkari, which spawned the Sept. 7 terror attack near the Dağlıca military outpost that killed 17 soldiers. The report also highlights the security measures that the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) has taken against terrorists' infiltrating Turkey from Northern Iraq, mostly through intervention of traffic, while noting that the presence of terrorists in the rural areas has been severely reduced, since they have moved the war into the cities.Meanwhile in Sur, 13 terrorists surrendered to security officers on Monday, which makes a total of 64 terrorists who have surrendered in the conflict-ridden district since the beginning of operations in December.Similar incidents of surrender have increased since mid-February, when security forces encircled terrorists in an area with 100 buildings and cut off their supply routes. It is reported that there are only six buildings with 30 terrorists remaining in Sur, and operations might be finished in a week.Elsewhere, security forces on Monday killed 25 PKK terrorists in the southeastern Diyarbakır and Şırnak provinces, the General Staff said yesterday.According to a statement released by the General Staff, security forces killed 19 PKK terrorists in Şırnak's İdil district and six in Diyarbakır's Sur district. The statement also said that PKK weapons and ammunition were confiscated. The total number of terrorists killed since the start of counterterror operations in both districts increased to 362, according to the military. The PKK continues to lose support from locals amid operations to purge the PKK from southeast.A recent security report presented to the Interior Ministry said that due to heavy losses and a lack of grassroots support, the PKK's plan to create de facto autonomous cantons has failed. The security forces expect that the PKK will call for "insurrection" in southeastern provinces on March 21 during the Nevruz festival. However, some sources believe that the PKK's call will be ineffective, given low public support for its previous calls.Calls from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), which has been accused of carrying a pro-PKK line, and its co-chair, Selahattin Demirtaş, last week to disobey the imposed curfew in Sur found a small response. Only a couple hundred people were on the streets on Wednesday last week.Even though the call was unsuccessful, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Interior Minister Efkan Ala on the same day slammed it and pointed their fingers at Demirtaş. "I don't believe that the locals and my Kurdish brothers and sisters will say yes to a call that smells like an invitation to terror. The duty of a deputy cannot be calling for crime. I think prosecutors should do their part," Erdoğan said.
