Within the railway project initiated in western Kocaeli province, Gebze and Darıca districts are getting their own driverless subway trains.

Subway line is planned to be constructed between Gebze and Darıca, the two districts where industrial establishments are mainly gathered.

A statement made by the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality on Friday, indicated the contract will begin on February 1.

A fully-automated subway system will be applied to the Gebze line, where controls and interventions to the subway trains will be conducted electronically from a remote command center, the municipality said

"The high performance, reliability, low service intervals, low operating costs and better response to passenger demands of these metros are making them more appealing with each passing day," the statement added.

The driverless metro will have 12 stations along the 15.6km subway line, and will have 90 second intervals between two trains.

The 15.6-kilometer-long subway line will be opening in 560 days with only 900 meters being above ground.
