Istanbul police raided a restaurant in the central Beyoğlu neighborhood on Monday night where an electronic cigarette company was holding a promotion party.
The sale of Electronic-cigarette, or e-cigarette, is banned in Turkey. According to a Habertürk report, organizers of the party rented the top floor of a restaurant on İstiklal Avenue to promote e-cigarettes.
Police detained the three organizers and fined around 800 people who attended the party for consuming a tobacco product indoors.
The Health Ministry has not approved any e-cigarette product for import to or consumption in Turkey. However, illicit imports and sale of such products have become prevalent in recent years.
