Family and Social Policies Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya said Friday that 225,000 Syrian babies were born in Turkey between January 2014 and July 2017.

Speaking during the opening of a center for orphans at a refugee camp in Harran, Şanlıurfa on the border with Syria, Kaya said the hope was for the peace to descend to the entire region and every individual living as honorable human beings.

Condemning the world's silence on the continuing Rohingya tragedy in Myanmar, "It is when children are a sleep that you should be silent, not when they are being killed," Kaya said. The ministry set up 26 mobile psychological support centers that had helped 120,000 people between 2014 and 2016, she said. "508,000 Syrian children are going to school in Turkey. And we will continue to provide the necessary social, economic, psychological, medical and other help to our Syrian guests as long as they need," she said.
