Essay contest to tell the world about the July 15 coup attempt in Turkey

The municipality of Zeytinburnu, a district in central Istanbul has organized an essay contest about the July 15 abortive coup attempt perpetrated by members of the Gülenist terror cult (FETÖ) embedded in the ranks of the Turkish military.

The contest offers 5,000 liras for the winners, 3,000 liras for the runner-ups and 2,000 liras for the third place contestants. In total, 80,000 liras of rewards will be provided to the competitors, who will write essays in English about their experience of the night of July 15.The requirements to compete in the contest include being a Turkish citizen or an expat that experienced the night of the coup attempt in Turkey. The competitors are also required to be a master or doctorate student, academician, director of employee in national or international media organizations; a retired soldier or diplomat; director or employee in a scientific, cultural or sociological research institution.

The contest, also sponsored by the Turkuvaz Media Group and Daily Sabah Centre of Policy Studies, is free to join.

There are eight categories for the competition, as the official website states:

The contest does not require paperwork. Applications will be made through the application form on the official website, where the essays will be uploaded in Microsoft Word .doc or .docx formats.Military troops loyal to the government, along with police units and millions of Turkish citizens, succeeded as of July 16 morning in quelling a coup attempt, launched by a small military junta linked to the FETÖ, starting from mid-afternoon a day before.

As a result of the attempted coup, 246 people were killed, including 41 police officers and 47 civilians, while 1.440 others were injured. Some 104 pro-coup figures were also killed.
