The name of Ömer Halisdemir, the noncommissioned officer who was killed after shooting senior coup plotter Br. Gen. Semih Terzi dead on the night of July 15 and consequently prevented the capture of Special Forces Command, will live on after Parliament approves a bill naming the university in his hometown Niğde after him.
Meanwhile, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality decided to build an 8,000-square-meter public park in Niğde in Halisdemir's honor.
Halisdemir is recognized as one of the main heroes of July 15.
