2 police officers killed, 1 injured while disarming bomb planted by PKK on road in eastern Van

Two police officers were killed and one was injured in an attempt to disarm an explosive that was planted by PKK terrorists on a road in Turkey's eastern Van province.

The incident occurred at around 9.30 a.m local time in the İpekyolu district.

Police received a report that the terrorists had planted explosives on the Karlıova road, upon which bomb-dismantling experts were dispatched to the area.

However, as the security forces were trying to disarm the bomb, the explosive detonated, killing two officers and injuring one.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU, resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015. Since then, more than 430 security personnel have been martyred and more than 3,800 PKK terrorists killed.
