Turken Foundation, a New York-based non-profit organization which provides assistance to students in the United States, has launched a project to build a compound for student accommodation in Manhattan, with the aim to enable female students experience other cultures and civilizations throughout the world. Turken Foundation, established in 2014 in the United States by Turkey's two major foundations, Ensar Foundation (established in 1979) and TÜRGEV (established in 1996), assists eligible students by means of scholarship, accommodation and other cultural programs in order to improve their education process in the United States.The foundation also provides provides cultural, social and educational opportunities and experiences for the students, and helps promote cross-cultural relationships and understanding between various students' cultures and American culture and tradition.According to chairwoman of TÜRGEV Arzu Akalın, the foundation has opened its doors to Syrian students in Turkey, by providing free accommodation for them and highly values the education of girls. TÜRGEV has increased the number of its student residences by 130 percent, and is now able to accommodate up to 8,500 students. According to Dr. Halil Mutlu, the President of Turken Foundation, 10 places have been rented to provide accommodation for female and male students in New York, and with the construction of a new building in Manhattan, the foundation will be able to provide assistance for hundreds of students receiving education in New York. In his recent trip to New York last week, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu attended a dinner hosted by Turken Foundation and has delivered a speech.
