Turkish State Meteorological Service (TSMS) issued a warning on Sunday regarding the heat wave coming from Africa expected to hit southwest Turkey next week.Accordingly, temperatures will rise up to 41 to 42 degrees Celsius (108-106 F) in southwestern provinces of Muğla and Antalya, while the humidity level is expected to drop. Temperatures in southeastern Turkey will also exceed 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit).Officials warned citizens to take precautions against health effects and forest fires.Istanbul Technical University Meteorological Engineering Faculty Member Professor Orhan Şen stated that these temperatures are 5 to 6 degrees above seasonal averages.Şen said that the increase in surface temperatures by 1.5 degrees Celsius in eastern and central Pacific Ocean known as "El Nino" leads to an increase in temperatures throughout the world. Drought will also increase as temperatures rise, Şen said, pointing out to changes in seasons due to global warming.
