The Turkish Armed Forces have decided to allow conscripted soldiers to spend the night outside their barracks in a landmark regulation.
Soldiers performing their compulsory military service will be able to leave the barracks after the end of daily working hours in the evening if their families have residence permits in the city where they are deployed.
Soldiers are deployed to army units outside the city they live but those living in a city which is not their place of birth often have a chance to be assigned to military units in the city where they originally reside.
Formerly, soldiers were only allowed to stay in places outside their barracks over the weekend.
