The chiefs of two district police departments located in Istanbul have been removed from their posts, media reported on Thursday.
Selami Altınok, the chief of Sultanbeyli district police department and Gürkan Bakkal, the chief of Zeytinburnu district police department, were dismissed from their jobs following recent incidents at those two police departments.
Six officers from Sultanbeyli police department were arrested last week following allegations that a suspect was tortured.
The dismissal of Sultanbeyli district's department's chief is thought to be related to this incident. However Bakkal's removal from his post is believed to be linked with the killing of a Serbian basketball fan outside the Abdi İpekçi Arena located in Zeytinburnu district before a basketball game between Red Star Belgrade and Galatasaray on 21 November. The police were accused of failing to take the necessary precautions to prevent the incident, according to reports.
