The Turkish government implemented a new regulation yesterday that requires mines to deploy measures to ensure the safety of workers in case of an accident.
The regulation drafted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security obliges mining companies to provide a safe passage in the case of a collapse, methane gas explosion or any other industrial accident. If the mines are not geographically suitable to provide a gateway, they will be required to place oxygen mask stations between galleries and exits to the surface.
Mines will also be required to have air compressors close by to fight against rising carbon monoxide levels.
