Nazlı Ilıcak draws criticism for derogatory words against Roma rights

ISTANBUL — The Roma Rights Forum of Turkey (ROMFO) has asked for an apology from Gülen Movement-affiliated journalist, Nazlı Ilıcak on Wednesday, after writing, "When a Gypsy explains his bravery, he mentions his thievery." ROMFO made a statement explaining that people involved in media should stay away from hate speech. ROMFO's statement: "This saying has been used by politicians and in news articles, whether consciously or unconsciously." ROMFO stated that, "If the word 'gypsy' was replaced with their own ethnicity, then they would understand the sheer weight of the saying, and maybe they would try to ease the pain of the Romanians who have been subject to ill-treatment for hundreds of years."
