ISTANBUL — The government has hit the green light regarding further financial assistance for in vitro fertilization.
Under a planned draft bill, the medical expenses of parents who have failed at two previous in vitro fertilization attempts will be covered by the state. Currently, social security covers only two in vitro fertilization treatments, with less coverage for the second treatment. The new bill will also increase the age limit for in vitro fertilization to 40 from 38.
About 5 percent of the births in Turkey result from in vitro fertilization. Of about 100,000 women impregnated through in vitro fertilization, some 42,000 gave birth to babies.
