U.S. Ambassador Francis Ricciardone was on a trip to Van when his vehicle suffered a flat tire in the Başkale district which forced the diplomat and his delegation to wait for the tire to be repaired. From there, the Ambassador headed to Hakkâri' where he paid a visit to Governor Orhan Alimoğlu in his office.
Ricciardone explained that he first visited Hakkâri 33 years ago during his appointment in Adana. "Hopefully, along with the peace to be established here, Hakkâri will open up to the world. In terms of tourism and investment, this region will see much more development," stated Ricciardone.
