Universities are now free in Turkey

During a press conference following the Council of Ministers meeting held yesterday, Government Spokesman and Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç announced that from here on out, university tuition will be free in Turkey.

LIFTED BY DECREE: The good news recently announced by Prime Minister Erdoğan that the government would soon be lifting student fees was realized last night in a decree enacted at the Council of Ministers meeting. From here on out, the previously obligatory contribution fee provided by students will no longer be required. This nation's 1,524,380 university students will be able to immediately benefit from the lifting of these mandatory tuition fees.

Evening education students will still be subject to pay tuition fees however. Evening education classes, which begin approximately after 17:00, are generally for students with lesser points who take classes in a particlular university branch by paying additional fees.
