PKK attack in Şemdinli: Five killed
PKK terrorists attacked a security headquarters in southeastern Turkey overnight, killing two security personnel and three civilians.
PKK terrorists have stepped up attacks against the Turkish army since a ceasefire ended earlier this year. About 50 Turkish security personnel have been killed in recent weeks.
Terrorists launched the attack at around 10pm on Sunday on the district security headquarters in Şemdinli, Hakkari province near Turkey's borders with Iraq and Syria.
One Turkish soldier, one policeman and three civilians were killed during the raid which lasted for several hours, the sources added. Seven soldiers and three civilians were also wounded in the attack.
Turkish troops set out ground troops backed by helicopters to search the area after the attack, said the sources.
Turkey said it killed up to 160 terrorists during air strikes and artillery attacks on suspected PKK hideouts in northern Iraq last month.
