The assembly will run like honey

Upon reminding the CHP and independent elected MP’s, “the public gave you prerogative for legislation and not for a boycott, Erdoğan states, “Come or not, the assembly will run like honey.”

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan spoke out to the independent and CHP MPs who refrained from taking oaths following the court's refusal to release incarcerated elected deputies. "Whether you come or not, that is up to you. The assembly will run like honey."

During his first address to the 61st term deputies at the AK Party General Headquarters, Erdoğan heavily loaded on the main opposition party CHP, or the People's Republic Party, for their decision to stage a boycott against taking their oath fo rthe new assembly. "This will go down in history as a dark stain." Erdoğan went on to deliver an emotional address that even brought tears to the likes of Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç. A few of the messages delivered by the premier on the first group meeting for the new government were as follows:

"We have been subjected to a great injustice. Even when our party had 65 percent control of the parliament, they wanted it shut down. They wanted to obstruct our electing of a president. We have become the target of gangs, anti-democratic and illegal organizations. There were procedures and adjustments we made that you do not approve of and criticized. However we have never disregarded the laws of justice, we have never not paid heed to the constitution and we have never tried to open doors through threats or imposition.

It is extremely incongruous to complain that the judiciary has been politicized and then request the judiciary to participate in a political struggle. Those who indict the AK Party or the government directly due to the judiciary's rulings are simply relapsing into their old habits.

I am speaking out to those who say that the Prime Minister would solve this issue. What will the Prime Minister do? What will he do, call the judges, call the courts and give orders? Such things may have transpired when other parties were in power, and we know very well so that they did. However, during our time in power, such things will not be experienced nor made to transpired. Those who refuse to come to Turkey's Grand National Assembly due to a judicial ruling have still not accepted distinct legislation-implementation-judiciary power.

Oppositional parties must act with common sense and bring reasonable proposals to the table. You will get nowhere with reactions, protests and boycotts. Those who have made the issue what it is now, should act with reserve instead of deepening the divide.

I ask, since when has the concept of honesty become friends with the notion of lies? You sit in the front and write yourself down as absent. What kind of honesty is this? This will go down in history as a dark stain on the main opposition. You were all there, but you wrote yourselves down as absent. This won't fly gentlemen. CHP is in an ontological dilemma. The public did not authorize a boycott; they granted legislative authority and the ability to write laws.

Our greatest desire is for the opposition to reach the point of surpassing their current issues as well as to surpass the country's general issues, to act responsibly, to take their oath and to participate in the assembly. If this does not transpire, then we will not allow for the will of the nation to be obstructed through a boycott.

The opposition can either come or go; it is not a hindrance to the parliament's work. The main opposition states, "Commissions can not function without us there'. However unfortunately they are misguided. Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu, the commission will run like honey. Let's just make sure that there is no one absent from our friends participating. When everyone participates you'll see just how well it works.

The Assembly Council will work the same way. There, the party in power was established by numbers. The same will transpire with the establishing of this council, and the work will continue. Because, as the party in power; the AK Party's numbers are enough for this meeting today and enough to reach a decision. However, our hearts' desire is for democracy to gain power through opposition. Therefore, we want you to be there, however whether you come or not, is up to you."
