Let's get lost in New York City

Who wants to be a New Yorker, at least for a couple of days? If your inner voice says "yes," stay curious because we are about to f ly to the most exciting place in the world: Ne w York City!

Georgeous buildings, a continuous rush, smiling faces even if they look too cool to care... Being in New York City is synonymous with feeling alive.Big cities always make visitors' heads spin and cause an endless eagerness to explore all of a city during their busy schedule. Thus, do not list, do not guide, do not let small shopping malls grab you and don't ever become scared of getting lost because a journey is an adventure; if you are in New York, it is a double adventure.I am not going to lie to you. Brace yourself, if you have not already, because this enchanting place, these streets are waiting to be discovered, actually making New York City the most dangerous place in the entire world. Maybe this is the biggest reason making this city so exciting for visitors as well.We all love danger to a certain extent, and New York City knows very well how to maintain this excitement for its visitors. It does not matter if you are traveling for the first or the 20th time. With scores of destinations, NYC offers you something new to discover every time. This might seem to be absurd advice if you are not a fan of cold weather, but the best time to visit NYC is winter. The people are jolly and nice because of the magical Christmas spirit surrounding the whole city for almost three to four months. If you cannot catch Christmas, don't be disappointed because New York is amazing all-year-round.If you agree not to take a guide or a map, you can start by getting lost in this mesmerizing city. First, as a tourist, choose someone and ask how to get to Central Park, which is at the top of the list of places to visit in this city. When you arrive in this natural gem, you can rent a bike or just walk around the most visited park in the U.S. The park will definitely remind you of movies shot in NYC, and let you feel as though you are a performer in one of these movies… Central Park is the place to escape from the continuous rush of the city - not only for residents, but also for visitors. While walking through the park, you will see all the colors of nature from yellow to red. If you visit the park in the fall, I am pretty sure that the dream of the park will reveal the "romantic person" living somewhere inside you. After walking or pedaling in the park, it is time to rest a little bit - but not that much - because we are in NYC and have lots of things to do! The Met Roof Garden Café or the Martini Bar in the Metropolitan Museum of Art are the places to relax after Central Park since we need to get prepared for the rush of this noisy city. Crowded with art lovers, artists and tourists, the Metropolitan Museum offers its visitors incredible pieces of art and a place to stop for a drink, while peering out over Central Park. The café has a breathtaking view of the park from its spacious terrace. If you rest and recharge your batteries, you should then head to the most expensive street in the world - Fifth Avenue, the street that lets you discover the "shopping mania" inside you. You can find any kind of store to serve your love of shopping, such as Gucci, Versace, the famous glass cube Apple Store or the NBA store on this unrivaled shopping strip. This tip is for women who read this article: "Ladies, on Fifth Avenue, you can shop 'til you drop." Now, it is time to take a taxi and say hello to the world's loveliest tourist cliché: The Empire State Building. You all saw this one coming, but no trip to NYC is complete without paying a visit to the city's ultra-touristy site, the Empire State Building. This building is the tallest structure in NYC and that's why the view is spectacular. When you look down on all of New York City, just feel that you are at the top, leaving everything else behind. The building is open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m., and be aware that no matter when you visit it, you will have to wait in queues to take in that breathtaking view. In my opinion, what makes this building an iconic landmark of NYC are the shared hopes and dreams - not only of residents - but also of tourists coming from all over the world.Don't you still feel like you are actually in New York? A short walk will bring you to Times Square. As you walk past the billboards, shops and advertisements, you become overwhelmed with the sense that you are truly at the center of the world. Continue your slow stroll, watch the street artists perform acts you cannot see anywhere else, and buy the souvenirs your friends will be trampling over each other to get from you once you return home. After a while, the confusion and bewilderment of Times Square will get the best of you and you will want to find a quick escape to gather your thoughts.Well you're in luck. Walk up 42nd street until you reach Bryant Park. Here the winter atmosphere is in full bloom. The holiday season brings vendors out to the park, selling everything ranging from handmade clothes and jewelry to delightful desserts within the ornate kiosks of the winter village. At this quaint park you can also live out what has at one point or other been everyone's fantasy: ice skating in the big apple. The small fee for skates hire will be the least of your concerns as you glide across the ice lifting your body to a whole new level of relaxation and happiness. Our next stop is the first and the oldest suspension bridge, which is Brooklyn Bridge. For tourists and those who want to see lower Manhattan's splendid view, you must walk across the bridge at sunrise. And don't miss the "love locks;" a traditional practice in which people attach these locks to the bridge and throw the key into the water as a sign of "everlasting love." When the time comes to say goodbye, I believe that you will be filled with wonderful memories and the aura of the city, as well as the feeling that your visit has been left half finished. At the end of your journey, you will realize that many places in New York City still remain undiscovered, as New York City says to its visitors: "Please, come back again." Tips for the Big ApplePedicabs are a great way to travel around the city. They are fast, affordable, and best of all, environmentally green. Try to converse with your peddler in Turkish and odds are you will have a nice conversation.Outside Central Park you can find horse drawn carriages. These offer you a genuinely ancient experience, guaranteed to sooth your inner romantic. Test your Turkish skills with the driver here too for a genuine surprise.Looking for a small low calorie dessert to top off your walk? Baked by Melissa has many branches around the city, their mini cupcakes cost only a dollar and the variety is astounding.Avoid smoking in parks and cafes in New York City. This carries a heavy fine which is sternly enforced. When taking a cab, ask the driver to stick to the most direct route regardless of traffic to save on cab fare. It is New York City. There is always traffic, regardless of the routes. If you are only planning a short stay, avoid renting a car. The amount you will pay for parking will surpass your cab fare and you will also save hours you would otherwise spend looking for available parking.Contributed by Tevhid Nazmi Baştürk
