Caravan tourism in Cappadocia

While the number of overnight visitors in the Cappadocia region is on the decline, caravan tourism, which poses a serious potential strength, continues to increase each year.

Having served in the caravan tourism industry in the famous town of Göreme, with its From Nevşehir's ferry chimneys to churches with rock carvings, Osman Baltacı states that during the decade of 1985 to1995, tourists regularly travelled by caravan. Having provided touristic services in the region for 15 years now, Osman Baltacı explains that most caravan visitors come from Italy, followed by tourist groups from Holland, France and Germany.

Explaining that the cheap tourism phenomenon provides serious apprehensions for caravan tourism, as it does for other forms of tourism, Baltacı states, "Unfortunately we are unable to experience the world's most significant natural, historical and cultural treasures. The offering of extremely low prices presents significant problems for caravan tourism, as it does for other tourism categories.
I truly wonder how many countries there are that struggle with marketing their prosperities at low prices. For years now, there has been a drive in the Cappadocia region to present all of the required tourism alternatives for at least 3-5 days of accommodation, however the average stay with caravan tourism varies between 3-7 days. As long as we continue to make significant progress in this area, the increase in the number of overnight stays will increase. They may not be able to take advantage of the touristic accommodation facilities; however it will accelerate developments in a number of other tourism sectors."
