Turkey spent 234 billion minutes on the phone last year


Cellphone subscribers in Turkey talked to each other for 233.9 billion minutes and sent 100.7 billion text messages to each other last year, according to data from the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK).Total phone traffic increased 6.8 percent when compared to the previous year, reaching 233.9 billion minutes, and 95 percent of this traffic was on cellphones. Moreover, according to the distribution of total phone talk traffic according to year, mobile calls are increasing, while calls from landlines are declining. In 2015, calls from landlines decreased 19.2 percent to 11.3 billion minutes when compared to 2014.The number of text messages sent declined 19 percent to 100.7 billion. While the amount of multimedia messages sent were extremely low when compared to text messages, 83 million multimedia messages were sent over the same period.
