Science, Industry and Technology Minister Fikri Işık said the ministry is not just willing to design, create and produce an automobile while developing the local car project, but also wants to offer new technologies to the world such as a driver control unit or autonomous vehicle systems.

Speaking at the 29th Meeting of the Supreme Council for Science, Industry and Technology, presided over by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, Işık said the main theme of the meeting was Industrial Revolution 4.0. "Since we have lagged behind during the previous three industrial revolutions, we want to be prepared for the fourth revolution. Therefore, we discussed in detail what this new period will entail and how we can best prepare for it at the meeting of the Supreme Council for Science, Industry and Technology," Işık said.

He also added that the conference, mainly including representatives from the private sector, taking place right after the Supreme Council for Science, Industry and Technology meeting is extremely valuable. Işık called on all the participants to focus on making Turkey's future parallel to the future of technology, and for Turkey to become a country that closely follows, adopts, implements, develops and exports new generations of technology so it does not fall behind global developments like in the past.

Highlighting the importance of increasing the quality of the labor force market and ensuring that corporations are ready for these innovations, Işık said rapidly developing new technologies will affect and pressurize large and established firms. "These technological changes mean that the names at the top of lists such as the biggest companies in the world, the best technology firms or the companies with the highest brand value will vary a great deal from year-to-year," Işık added.
