Bordes and Offringa get titles in Alaçatı Wind Surfing race


Pegasus PWA Windsurf World Cup, which was held for the eighth time in Alaçatı, Çeşme finished this weekend with French speedracer Cedric Boders came first in the men's category while Sarah-Quita Offringa ranked first in the women's categories. Pegasus PWA Windsurf World Cup, sponsored by Pegasus Airlines, hosted 64 men and 21 women competitors from 35 countries, including 28 Turkish sportsmen, along with 3,000 windsurfing devotees set over a 12,500 square meter area. After the race, which continued for a whole week, 55,000 Euros (TL 156,000) were given to the top ranked windsurfers. Last year's winner Sarah-Quita Offringa successfully defended her title while Delphine Cousin from France ranked second with Turkish surfer Lena Erdil claiming third place. One of the successful Turkish sportswomen Fulya Ünlü came fifth after last year's third place while Çağla Kubat ranked sixth. In the men's category Frenchman Julien Quentel was crowned champion followed by his countryman and last year's champion Antoine Albeau with Pascal Toselli coming third. Cedric Bordes with 68.5 km and Sara-Quita Offringa with 61.8 km were granted the Pegasus Speed Award. The contestants started the race with GPS devices attached to their arms. The fastest windsurfers were awarded with 1,000 euros each. The speed champions received their prizes from Pegasus Airlines General Manager Sertaç Haybat.
