Drogba receives prestigious Golden Foot award

Galatasaray’s expert forward Ivory Coast star Didier Drogba was awarded the prestigious Golden Foot award in Monaco on Wednesday.

Galatasaray's legendary forward Ivory Coast star Didier Drogba was the recipient of this year's prestigious Golden Foot award, beating out the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Andres Iniesta and David Beckham.

Galatasaray Chairman Ünal Aysal was the first to congratulate Drogba on the honor, which the Ivory Coast player said made him feel like a "Hollywood Star." Drogba will now be entitled to lay his footprints at the "Hollywood of Football" in Monaco, which also hosts prints from players such as Ronaldo, Del Piero, Nedved and Roberto Baggio.

In addition to Cristiano Ronaldo, Andres Iniesta, David Beckham and former Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba also competed against Iker Casillas, Samuel Eto'o, Miroslav Klose, Andrea Pirlo and David Trezeguet for the prestigious award.

Drogba succeeds Paris Saint German striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the title, which is awarded annually to an established footballer over the age of 28 who is still playing on the field.

Drogba joined Galatasaray on January 28, 2013 and currently plays in the Turkish Super League. He is the captain and all-time top scorer of the Côte d'Ivoire national football team but is perhaps best known for his spell with Chelsea, during which he was the team's highest foreign player scorer. Drogba has now also become the first African player to win the Golden Foot.
