Turkey wins eight medals in London’s Paralympics

With eight medals collected thus far, Turkey’s most recent medal winners in the London Paralympics is Neslihan Kavas who won a silver in table tennis and Doğan Hancı who took home the bronze in archery yesterday.



Turkey took home two medals in one day yesterday at the 2012 London Paralympics. Neslihan Kavas won the silver medal in table tennis after losing to China's Lina Lei, even though she started off with a 2-1 lead. The sets were; 8-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-5 and 11-7.

National archer Doğan Hancı also took home the bronze on Monday. After losing to Finland's Jere Forsberg by 7-3, Doğan Hancı faced-off against Spain's Rodriguez Gonzalez for the bronze, which he won by winning 6-2.Turkey's contender in the shooting category Korhan Yamaç came in fourth yesterday, nearly securing the nation yet another medal.

THREE MEDALS IN WEIGHT LIFTING

Turkey has brought home a total of eight medals thus far in the 2012 London Paralympics. Turkey has seen the highest rate of success at this year's Paralympics in the weight lifting category, having already won gold, silver and bronze medals. On September 2nd, Özlem Becerikli won the bronze in the women's 56-kilo power lifting category with a 118 kilo lift. Competing on the first day of the games, Nazmiye Mutlu broke a world and Paralympics record by lifting 109 kilos in the women's 40-kilo category and securing Turkey's sole gold. In the 44-kilo women's category, Çiğdem Dede lifted 105 kilos to win the bronze.

Turkey has also won two medals in women's judo; a silver by Akın Nazan in the +70 kilo category and a bronze by Çete Duygu in the 57-kilo category.
