The reinstallation of a "kiswah," the cloth that covers the Kaaba that Saudi Arabia gave as a gift to the U.N. was overseen by U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at an official ceremony. Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the U.N., Abdallah al-Mouallimi, also attended the ceremony held at the U.N.'s New York headquarters.Taking the floor at the ceremony, Mouallimi said that the kiswah was sent to Mecca for maintenance during renovation work at the U.N. and then reinstalled in the U.N. building. Ban also said that it is a privilege to receive the cloth, an important cultural treasure for the U.N. following necessary maintenance work.
