The Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOKİ) signed a new agreement with World Bank regarding energy efficiency and green buildings. During the signing ceremony, TOKİ President M. Ergün Turan said they want to take their relationship with World Bank further, and the administration's aim is to construct 500,000 properties over eight years. "We plan to build 60,000 properties this year. The number of residential properties that have been built in the last two months is nearly 10,000," Turan said.He also stressed that the importance of sustainable development is becoming better understood, and the value of the efforts related to energy efficiency is increasing. Informing World Bank officials about the administration, Turan said 43,000 properties have been constructed over a 19-year period by providing funding from the Housing Development Fund. Turan also said TOKI has become an institution constructing only housing properties, and nearly 700,000 residential properties have been built since 2002. In addition, he said while 90 percent of the construction consisted of housing properties, only 10 percent was for the high-income group.
