Germany told not to make distinction between terror groups

Turkey's Defense Minister on Friday called for his German counterparts to not make distinctions between terrorist groups, while Turkey faces terror threats from DAESH as well as the PKK terrorist organizations.

"We need to be attentive to one point, namely making no distinction between terror organizations," Defense Minister Fikri Işık told German counterpart Ursula von der Leyen in Ankara.

The high-level meeting was held three days after a deadly terror attack at Istanbul's Atatürk International Airport which left 44 dead and more than 200 injured, and which Turkey blames on the DAESH terror organization.

Işık said that the two nations were "carrying out the fight against DAESH" and that these efforts will continue.

The German defense minister arrived in Ankara following a visit to İncirlik Air Base, near the Syrian border. Planes flying in the anti-DAESH coalition launch from İncirlik to strike at DAESH targets.

Von der Leyen expressed her condolences regarding the Istanbul attack, underlining that Germany stands beside Turkey in its fight against terror.

Işık said that the fight against "global terrorism must also be global."

Turkey has recently slammed European countries that despite abhorring DAESH nonetheless tolerate or allow activities by these terrorist organizations: The PKK, the Democratic Union Party (PYD), and their armed wing the People's Protection Units (YPG).
