Deputy Prime Minister Lütfi Elvan told the Parliamentary Planning and Budget Commission that some 80 percent to 90 percent of all cemevis – Alevi houses of worship – in Turkey have been built during the Justice and Development Party's (AK Party) term in power.
Asked about Alevis and cemevis at a session in the commission, Elvan said 80 percent to 90 percent of cemevis have been built during AK Party governments over the last 13 years when compared to figures of the past. Elvan also said that the government has currently a road map that envisions methods to detect problems and resolve them.
Elvan said that the Presidency of Religious Affairs (DİB) published Alevi-Bektaşi classics for the first time. He also said that DİB head Mehmet Görmez and his team put in significant efforts for it.
Meanwhile, the Justice Ministry has announced that it has established a council that will receive opinions and proposals from the Alevi community. The establishment of the working group followed Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu's recent meeting in Ankara with representatives from Alevi cultural associations. The council is set to function as a working group to address the issues related to Alevi communities and was established on an order by Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ.
The working group, which will be chaired by the deputy secretariat of the Justice Ministry, aims to provide legal grounds to resolve issues brought by the Alevi community, and will conduct its work over five different sessions, receiving opinions and proposals from leading representatives from Alevi nongovernmental organizations along with their umbrella associations.
