Dissident candidate calls on MHP’s Bahçeli to convene extraordinary congress

Koray Aydın, who announced his bid for leadership in the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), called on the party's Chairman Devlet Bahçeli to convene extraordinary congress on Thursday, in spite of dissidents for having enough delegates to force a regulatory congress to enforce an extraordinary congress later.Speaking at the Turkish broadcaster NTV, Aydın said that they have collected more than 400 signatures so far out of more than 1,200 total delegates of the party.Aydın, who ran against Bahçeli and received one-third of the votes in congress held in 2012, said that as dissidents of the party, they still wish that Bahçeli himself would call for congress to relieve inner-party tension. Bahçeli and the party's deputies will hold a meeting over the weekend to determine strategies on how to proceed with the party's politics.Answering a question about whether they will cooperate with other dissident candidates, namely Sinan Oğan and Meral Akşener, who seem more distant than the other candidates, Aydın said that the congress demand is not an area to act on personal goals.
