Turkey continues operations against PKK in southeast

Turkish warplanes struck PKK targets and killed five terrorists as part of an air and ground offensive against the terrorist group in southeast Turkey on Tuesday, the Turkish military announced.A military spokesman said it hit PKK shelters and supply points in the mountainous Şemdinli district of Hakkari province, north of Turkey's borders with Iraq and Iran, on Monday.A PKK member and a suspected Daesh member of foreign nationality who were trying to enter Turkey illegally from Syria were detained on Monday, the first in the southeastern Şanlıurfa province and the other in Kilis province, the army added. Formed in 1978, the PKK has been fighting the Turkish state for an independent Kurdistan until the early 2000s. The group then shifted its goal to autonomy in predominately Kurdish inhabited regions of Turkey.
