President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Wednesday said that the period ahead of Turkey following the November 1 elections requires national unity and stated that the country will continue to fight against terrorism.Addressing local chiefs at the Presidential Palace only a few days after the November 1 general elections, President Erdoğan said that the period ahead of Turkey is not a period for dispute, but should consist of a period of resolution, with regards to the reconciliation process, which has been put on hold when PKK terrorists halted the ceasefire."The name of this process will now be 'the National Unity and Brotherhood Process" Erdoğan said, while adding that all citizens of Turkey who are loyal to the state are a part of the nation and unite under a single flag, homeland, nation and state. "From the easternmost point to the west, from the northernmost point to the south, with 78 million, we are a single nation with our Turkish, Kurdish, Arab, Bosniac, Romani and Zaza people" Erdoğan said. The President pointed that the state embraces all of its citizens, and said that it was ok for everyone to preserve their ethnic identity, but not to make discrimination or divisiveness.The President also noted that a new constitution was one of the priorities of Turkey, as he said it is one of the most important demands of the electorate, while he stated that cooperation between the government and the opposition was necessary to reform the country's constitution.President also said that the issue of amending the constitution has existed since his tenure as Prime Minister, but although the government achieved a lot back then, they were unable to enact the laws when the opposition left the table."Hopefully they will not hesitate supporting a new constitution" Erdoğan said, and added that parties that adopt an obstructive stance may see the consequences of their action in the general elections which will take place after four years.
