MHP might resolve coalition issue

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu is expected to meet with Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli today, as the coalition talks between the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and the Republican People's Party (CHP) failed to yield any result on Thursday.During his recent statement regarding the talks to form a government, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, "The MHP was in contact with the AK Party coalition committee. Prime Minister Davutoğlu may hold a meeting with the MHP, as well." Similarly, AK Party Group Deputy Chairman and Central Executive Board Member Mahir Ünal said, "We may hold meetings with the MHP again. We may share the evaluations that we have reached during the coalition talks with the CHP, as the MHP is a part of this process as well." Moreover, Minister for Labor and Social Security Faruk Çelik previously explained that they met with MHP Deputy Chairman Semih Yalçın twice, during which Yalçın had allegedly said that the MHP may support an AK Party minority government on the condition of early elections in November. Likewise, MHP Chairman Bahçeli, in his previous statements, said the MHP will take action to prevent instability in the country if coalition talks fail and a government cannot be formed.

The AK Party is expected to convene Parliament for an extraordinary meeting on Aug. 23, the deadline for the formation of the government. In this extraordinary meeting, the AK Party will call for early elections in November.
