Turkish MFA issues over 6 million e-visas


As of today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) will have issued 6,078,401 e-Visas through the Electronic Visa Application System website (www.evisa.gov.tr) that was launched in 2013. According to information obtained by the MFA, $121,606,625 in visa fees were collected via the e-Visa official website. Turkey is the sixth most popular tourist destination in the world and every year around 13 million visitors have to get Turkish visas before they travel. In order to reduce the queues in front of visa counters, the Turkish MFA introduced the e-Visa in April 2013. The e-Visa, which approximately takes three minutes to obtain, replaced the traditional visas formerly stamped inside the traveler's passport or issued at the border crossing into Turkey. According to the stats, each day in winter approximately 10,500 people and in summer 40,000 start their visa applications by using the e-visa application system.
