MHP leader Bahçeli praises rescue efforts in Soma

MANISA — Devlet Bahçeli, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party, visited Soma yesterday where he spoke with journalists and expressed his concern about Tuesday's deadly accident at a mine in the town. Touching upon the fact that the government has successfully utilized all means available to carry out rescue operations and care for survivors through a "superior display of efforts," Bahçeli stated it is crucial to take into consideration the information expressed by government officials responsible for crisis management and it is not suitable to otherwise comment about the issue. He specifically thanked Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yıldız, for his efforts and for utilizing all means available to show the Turkish nation that the Turkish state can support its people, even in times of crisis. Expressing his concern about the potential for rescue efforts to be hindered by visits of prominent figures in the Turkish government, Bahçeli stated he would personally avoid visiting the mining site with security officials and a large crowd.
