FM Davutoğlu says Syrian refugees cannot vote

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu denied allegations on temporary citizenship for Syrian refugees



ANKARA – Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu informed that Turkey has spent $ 2.5 billion dollars thus far on accomodating Syrians who seek refuge in Turkey. On Saturday, FM Davutoğlu commented on a parliamentary question which was sent in by Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) group vice president İdris Baluken. Davutoğlu denied allegations regarding the issuing of temporary citizenship for refugees, allowing them to vote, by saying that each refugee entry is recorded by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and temporary citizenship is not granted to any refugees.Syrian refugees are in the safeFM Ahmet Davutoğlu said that Turkey applies an "open door policy" to all Syrian refugees who have fled from domestic violence. In this context, they are not forced to return back to their country and refugees are safe under temporary protection.Syrian refugees are under temporary protection in 10 provinces and 22 refugee camps.

Davutoğlu also pointed out that contrary to claims, there have been no cases of human trafficking, prostitution or organ sales. He went on to explain that all of these allegations are completely false.
