Masters of local music and young musicians will meet at the Istanbul Foundation for Arts and Culture (İKSV) Salon this week. Jazz and classical music pianist and composer Tuluğ Tırpan will perform at İKSV Salon on Thursday evening with his quartet, composed of Serdar Barçın (saxophone, flute), Volkan Hürsever (contrabass) and Volkan Öktem (drums). The ECHO award winning trumpeter Fredrik Köster will accompany Tırpan in this special performance. Additionally, the increasingly popular, Ankara-based indie-folk musician Kalben and the Istanbul-based ethnic music band No Land will perform on Friday, while alternative rocker and composer Yasemin Mori will meet her fans on Saturday night.Tuluğ Tırpan Quartet feat. Following his musical education at Bilkent University and the Vienna Conservatory, Tırpan worked with renowned musicians such as Antonio Sanchez, Mike Stern, Nils Petter Molvaer, Ibrahim Maalouf, Cihat Aşkın, Zara, Sertab Erener and Göksel Baktagir, apart from his work with his own band, the Tuluğ Tırpan Trio. Köster was trained in music teaching, jazz trumpet, composition and arrangement, and was granted an ECHO award, the German music industry's most prestigious award, in 2010 for Instrumentalist of the Year. Köster, who has had the chance to work with important artists such as Phil Woods, Randy Brecker and Nils Petter Molvaer, continues his musical career as a member of Die Verwandlung (The Metamorphosis) and the Klaeng Jazz Collective, as well as his own band. Tırpan, who toured the world with the Indian percussion band Trilok Gurtu, and Köster will perform their dynamic compositions for Istanbulites at the Istanbul Foundation for Arts and Culture (İKSV) Salon. When: March 12, 9:30 p.m.Where: İKSV SalonKalben and No Land The Ankara-based indie folk musician Kalben, who entered the spotlight after she uploaded her own composition on SoundCloud, gained many followers after she performed at one of the "Sofar Sounds Istanbul" concert series and the video of her live performance ended up on YouTube. Kalben, who began playing guitar at the age of 14, will play her plain guitar melodies for Istanbulites. The music of the Istanbul-based band No Land cannot be categorized in a single musical genre. The band, which plays various instruments together, was founded by electro guitarist Sahand Lesani, acoustic guitarist Mehmet Akif Ersoy and vocalist-violinist Kamil Hajiyev in 2012. No Land took its final shape with the addition of bass guitarist Çağatay Vural, drummer Can Kalyoncu and vocalist-cellist Hazal Akkerman. The band occasionally joins forces with percussionist Yasu Alpalan and trumpeter Can Tüzener and continues to work on a new album. As rising stars of the alternative music scene, Kalben and No Land, will take to the stage one after the other on March 13 at İKSV Salon. Mori has given more than 60 concerts, and introduced her second solo album "Deli Bando" in 2012. The artist will be the guest of İKSV Salon for the promotion of her latest album, "Finnari Kakaraska," which was released in February 2015. Gökhan Şahinkaya will play electric, acoustic and bass guitars, and will accompany Mori on stage with electric guitarist Barlas Tan Ozemek, keyboardist Can Çankaya and percussionist Berke Can Ozcan. Mori said she can "feel words to some extent," and prefers to express herself through melodies instead. Moreover, she said her mother tongue is "the language of music." Mori, with her unique vocal performance, will perform on March 14 at İKSV Salon, and invites her audience to experience a musical journey.
