Landlocked Tunceli to hold watersports championship

Once haunted by terror, eastern Turkey's Tunceli has turned into a city of peace, natural beauty and, these days, adrenaline sports.

Although landlocked, the eastern Anatolian city is home to the Munzur River and has hosted a number of watersports events.

It will now host Turkey Water Jet and Flyboard Championship on Oct. 27 and Oct. 28.

Organizers are expecting hundreds of participants and a huge audience at the event.

Tunceli previously held the Turkey Rafting Championship, bringing thousands of watersports lovers to the city. It will also host another big event by the Turkish Motorsports Federation soon.

These events will also raise the city's potential as a nominee for hosting the World Rafting Championship in 2019.
