A group of camels has been disqualified from the annual King Abdulaziz Camel Festival in Saudi Arabia for violation of the strict rules in Riyadh. A total of 12 camels were banned from the contest after it was discovered that they had used Botox, reports said.
A handbook that was issued to beauty contest entrants last year noted that camels with injections in the lips, or those with shaved or dyed parts of the body, or with any sort of manipulations to their natural form are not allowed to participate in the contest.
"The camel is a symbol of Saudi Arabia, we used to prefer it out of necessity, now we preserve it as a pastime" chief judge of the show Fawzan al-Madi said in an interview with Reuters.
On the rocky desert that hosts thousands of camels, 213 million riyals ($57 million) is up for grabs hence there is a great temptation to cheat for people.
