Love is in the air

This Tuesday the world will be celebrating St. Valentine's Day. Istanbul's restaurants have prepared special meal and dessert menus for couples who want to have a romantic day out

Although it's not for everyone, St. Valentine's Day is a day full of love and happiness for many of us. Even if you don't have a lover, Feb. 14 is an opportunity for us to tell our friends, family and acquaintances how much we love them. There are endless options when it comes to activities on Valentine's Day, and this week, I have listed some suggestions that will help make this special day more memorable for you.My first suggestion is to choose a getaway location. I am sure that a Feb. 14 spent in nature will be very romantic and relaxing. Hotel Caeli, the meeting point of nature and art, is ideal for doing just that. This boutique hotel is located at the Kumköy site on the Gallipoli peninsula. Here, it is quite possible for you to enjoy nature sports among sprawling, beautiful vineyards. Hotel Caeli waits for its guests at the center of simplicity and artistic luxury and will feature a "Love & Dine"-themed Valentine's Week Feb. 10-19. Hotel Caeli, designed corner-to-corner in artistic details, is a place where you can find the works of world-famous artists on a backdrop of impeccable interior design and sophisticated decor, as well. While the iconic sculpture naming the hotel is "Porta Caeli" a work by Seçkin Pirim, one of the most important sculptors in Turkey, which means "Gate of Heaven" in Latin. Telling of the first most difficult 100 years of vine cultivation and every side of which consists of 50 layers, the sculpture changes shape according to the angle where it receives solar rays. It is quite impressive! On the other hand, the hotel's Winter Garden Restaurant boasts a scenic view of vineyards, a pond and a forest. This Valentine's Day, love birds can experience a prestigious tour of the Porta Caeli production facilities situated in the sprawling vineyards.I suggest that those who will be in Istanbul visit the Aqua Restaurant at the Four Seasons Bosphorus Hotel. The venue has a delicious menu consisting of five courses. Burrata accompanied by roasted tomato presented as the entree offers a light start to the menu, while the goose-meat pasta served immediately after is sure to give your taste buds a treat with its excellent taste. The menu also offers two alternatives as main courses; namely, the Black Sea turbot or the baked lamb loin as well as steak fillet blended with the unique taste of truffle. For dessert, cream with white chocolate and coconut is served. A live orchestral performance will also be presented with its repertoire consisting of national and foreign songs at night. Couples might stay at the hotel with special accommodation packages and wake up overlooking the blue waters of the Bosporus if they wish.Another restaurant suggestion is Vogue. Combining an impressive city view with delicious meals, Vogue has arranged an impressive program for those who want to spend St. Valentine's Day in the most romantic manner. Vogue's menu, which is prepared in the form of meal-for-two, includes "Leer Fish & Veal Carpaccio" flavored with sesame and ponzu sauce as the entree. "Veal Tartare" presented with crispy onion, quail eggs right after it leaves unforgettable tastes in mouths. The leading venues that first come to mind when sushi is mentioned, Vogue signs its name on the night with "Morina special role" containing pumpkin and mustard seed included in its St. Valentine's Day menu. "Crispy Crab" presented with a garlic, walnut and bread crumb sauce, pickled vegetables, fresh salad and pita bread also adds taste to your table. "Veal Ribs" presented as the main course allow you to experience a feast of taste, while a "Chocolate Tart" allows you to finish the night with pleasure. I have a small but sweet suggestion for those who will spend St. Valentine's Day at home with their loved ones. I think this suggestion will also be the trendiest Feb. 14 dessert of this year! Red Velvet Cake, as you might guess. You may buy these cakes while you are going home after work and give a sweet surprise to your beloved ones. In the 1960s in the U.S., cakes were prepared with beet juice and puree to have good colors and remain fresh and soft. This tradition, which has been ongoing for many years, successfully put Red Velvet Cake, one of the most liked cakes of romantic moments, among dessert legends. Two brands have ambitious products this year. The first is Kitchenette. The famous restaurant chain has prepared a nice recipe based on the thought that the biggest loves are experienced by the fact that opposite poles pull each other. It has combined the classical taste of Red Velvet Cake with the sour and sweet taste of apricot puree. And snow white, vanilla-flavored mascarpone cream completes the apricot puree that is then nestled between red layers of sponge cake. Another brand that makes Red Velvet Cake specifically for Feb. 14 is Cakes & Bakes. The double cake decorated with teddy bear figures prepared by talented chefs of the brand and Red Velvet cupcakes crowned with red hearts for St. Valentine's Day are quite ambitious. These cakes will be preferred by those who want to show their love in a modest but sweet manner. I wish everyone a St. Valentine's Day full of hope, love and pleasure!
