Locals and tourists in southern Spain felt the earth tremble after a meteorite crash on late Sunday.

The meteorite crashed in Spain's southern Costa Del Sol region at a speed of 72,000 kilometers an hour.

People first saw the meteorite at 11:25 p.m., which first lit up the sky and then "made the earth tremble" when it hit the ground, resembling a small earthquake. The tremble, however, might have occurred due to a sonic boom.

Observatories in Almeria, Toledo, Granada and Seville reported on the light of the meteorite.

The meteorite started burning up as it hit the atmosphere, as the Earth also went through the Geminid meteor shower, which occurs every year in December.
