Coffee shop owner avoids people with Monday blues by opening Tuesdays

Young manager Kamil Güneş who owns a coffee shop in Eskişehir does not work on Mondays because he wants to avoid people who suffer from Monday blues.Güneş's coffee shop "Keçi" offers its customers positive energy as it does not only serve coffee but also a good time. The customers are able to make designs from clay and potato stamps. Güneş, 32, told an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent that he opened "Keçi" six months ago and his café has a philosophy of its own, adding that he has been working very hard to realize his dream. While Güneş acknowledges that a university education is a must, he said that it is not the most effective way to achieve your dreams, emphasizing that one must do everything in his or her power to make his dreams a reality: "We have a philosophy in this café: 'Find the goat.' Our coffee shop 'Keçi' (Turkish for goat) is located down one of the alleys of the town of Eskişehir. I am not searching for customers. My priority in this life is to produce, share and improve. We are making life very hard for ourselves. People are earning a lot of money but they are wandering around with a sour face from Monday to Friday. I sometimes wonder if they are doing something they hate just for the money. In our coffee shop, we want to help people return to their original state," Güneş said.Güneş's shop is open six days a week; however, the manager prefers to keep his shop closed on Mondays. "As you can see, Monday brings Monday blues. I want to see customers with a smile on their face. I ask them what is wrong and they usually answer me by saying they have Monday blues. Hence, I decided to close the shop on Mondays. I want people to show up in my coffee shop when they are smiling," Güneş added.Keçi hosts various events on Saturdays to offer a good time to their customers. Güneş invites customers in groups to the workshop upstairs while customers who are blindfolded begin to make sculptures from clay accompanied by good music. "This is real life. People begin to make new things out of clay. They create more beautiful things when they are blindfolded as they see everything from within their souls. We allow our customers to exhibit their artwork, whether clay sculptures or painting, at the coffee shop. Some customers even make potato stamps. We share what we know with other people and listen what we do not know from others."Güneş also said that a glass of water is always free of charge at his coffee shop. He said: "I just sell coffee and I do not allow my customers to drink it as they want. I refuse to give my customers sugar when they request it. I believe this is an insult to the nature of coffee." Stressing the importance of sharing, Güneş said he sometimes gives the keys to his coffee shops to his customers to open the shop in the morning instead of him. "We have a 'goat philosophy.' I do not make sales with credit cards. If people do not have any money, I tell them to pay me back later. Our main concern is to meet with people who are intelligent and intimate that love sharing with other people," Güneş concluded.
